America is a CONTINENT (actually an area divided by 2 continents being North-America and Latin-/South-America) and also what the USA (which is a country INSIDE (North-)America) is called and directly associated with by the majority.

Since they are not only both very big, but culturally very different, they have always been geographically referred to as 2 different continents, i dont know which is official: America as a whole or North-/South-, but i usually refer to them as the latter, being different continents, because it's more specific and u can make sure they dont think u mean USA but actually the entire continent X_X
