It's been more than a year since the last news post, but Deathball is still played regularly - with several pickups starting each day at #deathball / irc.quakenet.org
However the real news is, there's a 4on4 league coming up at playdeathball.com with 6 teams signed up already.
Registration will close on 20th of April, so grab 3 (or more) mates and sign up!
If you're new to deathball or haven't tried it yet, there's also a quickstart guide at playdeathball.com and soon tutorials. In the meantime you can also have a look at the old gameplay guide or old video guide.
