DB-NG-DeathRoler (Funmap)
lo all,
i´m currently working on an Rollerball-Style Deathball map.
Mapping & Co:
Mapper: =[ACE]=Nolan
Idea: =[ACE]=Black
Betatesters: Team =[ACE]= and [3dg|bp]
Mapinfo:
Its a round map, with a halfpipe in the outer region.
There a 4 Goals (Yes, you do read right).
The Halfpipe is seperated by 4 walls from the inner region and there a 2 small windows in each wall,
but unreachable for player to jump through.
The Halfpipe will be made of ice (groundfriction about 0.3),
to give it a skating feeling.

Releases (Updated 2004-01-28 23:47):
http://www.pcgamemods.com/4104/
It´s an alpha release, so dont expect too much.
This Version is for Gameplay testing only!
Textures, Meshes, Brushes and Lights are not finished!
Version Changes:
044 -> 066
--------------
Added Disco Orb / Disco Light
Added Goal Rings / Klang Sound
Added Statics (Metal Bars)
Added JumpPads
Removed Penalty Volumes
Dimmed the Light
Decreased Ground Friction (0.15)
Skating feeling on the whole map
Pretesting:
up to 10 Players -> Quite Good
2vs2 -> Not tested
GibBall -> Not tested
Comments, suggestions, critics wanted!
Nolan
P.s: Dont Vote until you have took a look at the map!!!

i have started to add some db volumes to the map and...
arg..shit..damn..crap
there are some problems:
a) when i enter own penalty zone, i become keeper (even there is no keeper zone)
i dont want that...there should be NO keeper on that map,
but i allready guessed it would be so.
b) there are zones which belong to no team, and when i enter them (leaving the penalty zones), the icon at the bottom of the screen showing: "Own Penalty Zone" or "Enemy Penalty Zone" wont disapear.
i tried to add a db volume, with volume class "None",
but it didnt help.
damn.
anyone has some suggestions how to fix a) and b)?
thx
Nolan

Sorry it took me a while to get around to checking this map, I've been kinda busy for the past few days. Well I finally checked it out, I like the idea for the gameplay. I think the map has a lot of potential, but it still needs a lot of work.
First off, some suggestions for the visuals (if you haven't already decided what you want to do). The choice of textures could be better. The ground is OK, but the walls and ceiling could be better. Lighting definately needs to be looked at. Perhaps making the whole thing a bit darker overall, but some brighter lights around the goals? Also, put something around the goals so it doesn't simply look like a hole in the wall. Perhaps a shrunken BR goal embedded into it might work or simply a different texture? Lastly, are you planning to put a crowd or a skybox on the outside? There isn't really a whole lot to see at the moment.
Gameplay wise I think it's pretty good but I do have a couple of suggestions that could make it more fun. Have the lowered friction everywhere, rather than just in the half-pipes. Also, if could get someone to do some coding for you, perhaps make it so that this map increases player movement speed, so everyone moves about twice as fast? I feel doing these things would establish a truer Rollerball feel and could make for some hectic, but fun games.
I hope you find those suggestions helpful. I'll be keeping my eye out for the next release of this map.
