1. Usernames and passwords

Some notpron levels can be solved by changing the URL, others require a username and a password. This has nothing to do with any kind of membership or registration; you rather have to figure out the UN and PW inside the level. Note: sometimes it may happen that you have to enter UN and PW a few times before they are accepted; this is a bug (related to a slow internet connection).

2. IRC

In almost every source code in notpron, you'll find IRC: #notpron on Quakenet. What does that mean?

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a chat platform. There are several IRC networks, one of them is Quakenet.
On a network like that, there are thousands of chat rooms, the "channels". Our channel is #notpron.

All you need for chatting there is an IRC-client, such as mIRC. There are several other client programs, like Hexchat, Textual, x-Chat, Chatzilla, Miranda, Trillian, Opera etc.

If you have installed mIRC, have a look at this mIRC tutorial - it shows you how to start in three easy steps.

If you want to try IRC before downloading a client, there is a webchat available that runs directly in your browser. Just click here.

For further questions, PM Jay2k1 or talk to him in IRC.

3. Teamwork

It is a good idea to play notpron with other people. It is fun and it's easier. Also, you could look for people in the channel or in the forum who have the same level number in their nickname or signature as you have and ask them to work together.

4. Sound

Sometimes, sound is very important in notpron. This is why you should also have a pair of speakers or headphones.

In the past users had a lot of technical trouble with the sound because it was implemented using the <bgsound> HTML element. This has now been replaced by the new HTML5 <audio> element so everyone using a somewhat modern browser should be able to hear the sound.

To mute the sound of a tab, click the sound icon in the tab.

Reason: removed all the bgsound tips and added note about <audio>

If you want to use Photoshop, you can download a free 30-day trial at http://www.download.com/Adobe-Photoshop ... 01295.html

Some people might have problems to get GIMP run on their PC.

8. Avoiding spoilers in google

When searching google put in whatever you want to search for and add -notpron -"not pr0n" -level -spoiler -riddle -password (making sure you put the negative signs in there) and it should skip over spoiler sites. It excludes websites containing the words "notpron", "not pr0n", "level", "spoiler", "riddle" or "password" from the search.

9. Negative and greek levels

Once you finish the positive Levels (1-82), you start with the negatives. Having finished them, you do the greek ones. Thats all, there are no big differences.

10. Don't open new threads

Check all old ones. Find one for you level and reply there! The 'All level threads in one sorted list' thread helps a lot!
You will find a thread for each level.
Just bring up the old threads if they aren't helpful enough.

11. Source Code

The source code is what makes up a web page, it doesn't just magically appear on your computer. Much like a video game or other computer program, web pages use code.

Try right clicking on this page, and try to View Source or View Page Source

In most of the puzzles you will find clues in the source code.

Here is the link to the thread in the forum. if u have more questions about the source code, please read it first.

12. I like this forum. Is there something I can do to help?

Yes there is :)
If you browse the forums and see a
  • spoiler (partial or full solution to a level) or a
  • semi-spoiler (e.g. telling how to solve the level) or a
  • post with rude language etc.
then click the "Report this post to a moderator" link and tell us whats wrong with this post. That'll be a great help, we appreciate that :)

14. Why do you clean out the threads from time to time?

We do this cause some of you need less hints than others do. We delete all postings except the first postings with the official hints from the mods. That helps to keep the forum spoiler free.

Feel free to ask questions in the thread for your level - you'll always find help here. And for all who are giving hints: You are welcome with doing so. But please understand that we need to clean out the threads from time to time.
