Shot Shake
I was just reading the DB history thing and somehow while reading the shot shake thing. an idea came to mind about it.
I'm curious why the shot shake doesnt actually shake your screen, or even move your aim.. some modern games like doom 3 use such things to disorrient the player when they're getting shot.. what if instead of the ball just launching ina random dirrection. the ball shot mostly straight but your screen gets turned in some random degree dirrection.. not like making you do 360's or anything.. but it could turn you sideways or make you look upward or somthing when you get hit.
so its still possible to recover if you move your aim back. but this would also help 'shake' pass shots and give a more rough realistic feeling to getting hit when you have the ball.
//end thought//

well there is something like that... (the shaking screen) sometimes if a player lands on your head the screen shakes, and you have to wait 0.9 secs before the view is normaly again. First i though that it was something you have added, but it has only happened 5 times after that, well for me
If you could make something like that, it wouldn't be unfair against the defender because you cant control the aim at all for the 0.9 secs...

The only reason I think the current shake is.. shakey 'har har' is cuz if you get hit you can still continue to aim, and once the shake time elapses your ready for your shot where you originally intended.
IMO its not as skillfull and twitchy as having to correct the player getting turn all funky. cuz if the movement of the screen was random. you couldn't just go 'he's about to hit me. turn right- shoot - score! and pass is totally uneffected.
also, a player running with the ball and not even shooting would get turn abuot a little bit from a hit making it a lil more dangerious to just run about ;P
maybe this is a bad idea
that might annoy me

i already supported the idea of changing the players aim instead of just randomize the shot direction already when shake was first introduced. anyone who has ever played the mod jailbreak and experienced the 'llama' effect there will know that you can hardly aim with that. Even a close to rhythmic screen-movement can cause you serious trouble as seen in capture-the-beer.
@CorDawg:
one thing that i really don't like about deathball that there are artificial delays everywhere, not like you might first suspect gradually reduction / increments of effects.
with this 'real' shake you could, after a certain period of full-shake, just let the effect fade out over time, so you wouldn't even have to wait untill it's completely over (which also means the total effect could be extended) and shoot when you feel confident to do so.
of course you could do that with the other shake too, but then it would be just luck, and no skill.

what about you pay us some coders fulltime so we actually have time to waste time with such minor stuff?
and who kept saying "if it aint broke, dont fix it"?
yeah i know you'll say: lets just try it.
and i'd tell you: all not broke things i tried to fix were experiments too, and most worked in the end! but here we are simply lacking time, there is SOOOOOOOOO much to do, but we concentrate on the important things (read the end of the history)
