Deathball on Linux (Again)

Ok as we have all seen getting deathball to work on linux for some people has been a problem. But after the initial ini file bug was found it cured most peoples problems. Then Gagamel still had problems with the game but fixed it by installing the files directly into /system /sounds /map and so on instead of /deathball/system...
Well i had this problem as well the only way i could get deathball to work was by firstly installing all of the files directly into the directories (ut2003 style) but then so the mod was recognised i had to install using Samurs install script.
What I think is causing it is that the programme is looking for the files in the wrong place. The error says it cant find the packages for DB. As i dont know anything about UT2004 but i do want to track this bug down (i dont feel like having duplicate files on my PC for ever) i need some help. I want to start by checking the ini files are directing ut2004 to the right place but i dont know what inis to look in. If anyone could help out with where i should start looking it would be appreciated.
