I had to change my number to stop myself being rude when I picked up the phone!! to many werid people calling me

Good idea about changing your number. I think I may have to THEY are making me cross. THEY even call at 10PM on a Sunday evening! SO rude.

you should then! I put up with it for a while and then I just decided it wasnt worth keeping my number if I had to put up with it!

strangest thing for us dutch. We answer the phone saying our name. All the lot of you just say something like hallo and that is considered being rude overhere.

I've worked enough abroad to know it. But it is still funny. Having to check you're actually speaking to the one you want to speak to.

My phone answering depends on whos calling.
If friend or family its "hi"
If unknown its "hello"
If its a salesman i shout the first random comment that come to mind
If its someone I don't like I answer but don't talk (its their money being wasted )

Yes Frenchies also do that for work ! "allo" is for unknown personal message" ! But at work my answer is ' oui, Hugues Vandersch<spoiler removed>"....

puckoberon: I like the idea of saying your name. Do you answer with "??? here" or "hello this is ???" or what. Shall I know just say "red" when I pick up the phone.
