Are you arguing just for the sake of argument. Is the world gonna collapse if there is a version without the balls? Blah blah blah...

We'll see how the version with balls plays. If demand is high enough, then a ball-less version maybe released.
Would everyone be prepared to d/load 2 fairly large files that are basically the same map?

Well I can not speak for everyone but I don't think the North American community would mind. I have never had a problem with people downloading maps and we run one of the most popular North American servers.
