			Nicky it can go either way.  It all just has to be done in a modular fashion according to order of operations.  If you were to append further functions to your current operation you'd find that encapsulating the 5 with the exponent within the parenthesis would be a bit limiting when you get into the more complex statements.  This way you only focus on one term and its immediate functions.
I take it these exponents have some other function in this riddle, though

I have a number obsession. I love numbers. Especially the number 15.
