Back on topic: I think 1.6 is the best version of DB yet and I'm really looking forward to 1.7. I think DavidM is right, if we went back to 1.3b or whatever I doubt we'd all rave about it. Nostalgia plays tricks on people...Try playing your favourite game from yesteryear on an emulator and you'll see what I mean!

i just think that volleys should take more skill to do. (charging volleys anyone?)
If u mean kinda like the shield gun in Regular ut2k3 i think that would rock. Maybe if when it was charged full it released its self. That would limit boosting abilities (to get a good boost would take charge up time) and take a whole lot of skill to time a good volley.

yup, nostalgia that is
same with unreal, i'll keep it in mind the way i experienced it 5 years ago.
playing it again now is a pure dissapointment

Sometimes this community confuses the hell out of me.
First, volleys were too hard. They're made easier, then people complain about them being TOO easy. Then they're made harder again, and then easier. People are always going to complain. Has anyone got any REAL complaints about Deathball?
On the whole i'm completely FINE with 1.6. I think the dynamics of the game are OK aside from only two lame practices that either disturb the flow of the game or deliver almost certain goals. Of course I'm talking about penalty box camping and "boost goals" or "broomstick goals". All the other variables such as volley latency/radius, speed, jumps etc. have been tweaked to DEATH, and still people are always going to complain. I wish I could kick a football at 80mph from the halfway line whilst playing football, but I can't, and that's just tough shit.
Yeah, it's not perfect; and never will be. This constant search for a perfect balance is never going to please everyone, so why bother? Settling on an accepted standard will only help the game ultimately. Take away the boost goals, and the pbox camping: may the best team win.
Constant changes in game mechanics are exactly why people lose interest, and it is exactly the reason why some of the bigger clans that refuse to resort to cheap tactics are having problems. As far as I'm concerned Deathballs future lies in its maps and community, not it's code. Aside from boost goals and pbox camping, the core code should be considered mature in 1.6, and 1.7 should be that very code with replays, new gun, spec features and bug fixes etc. bolted on. Future versions should only fix bugs that are uncovered, and add features to aid mappers in creating better maps.

I think it should be hard to score in any fancy way other then a well aimed regular shot.
I like the idea of charging for everything, maybe it doenst overload right away when you don't have the ball like it goes to full gives you 1 full second before expelling...
I wouldn't mind timmed jumping just not the same as in typical unreal DM, give a little bit more time inbetween for those lovely lagged moments
give the keeper equal jumping ability as regular players. OR. give his first jump at only half height, so he doenst jump over low shots unless he jumps twice.
fix the redirrect. i'm tired of holding pass button before i get the ball and just catching it when i wanted to redirrect it... i look extra retarded running at the net and just catching the ball and getting pwned in the penalty zone because i was ready only to redirrect.

i agree with Mr Fu, apart from pbox campers - to me they are just lazy sweepers, and would do a lot more if they sat further out to cover more area - the way the pbox camper makes it is so the opposition generally always gets a shot on goal, with less chance for the defensive team to turnover the ball before the shot goes off.
I enjoy DB, 1.6 is great, although i dont like sprint, its off on the servers i play on

curving the ball also pwns, it opens up the game for some much more play.. i could go on
anyway, keep up the good work, ignore the flamers and cronic complainers , there are plently of peeps out here in the community who do appriciate the game you make, and do appriciate the fact you lsiten to , and discuss ideas with the community.

i have not read all the posts yet i am only on the second page but i wanted to make it clear that i wasn't talking about what verson you like the most i am talking about the play style, so yes you could always do a lot of this shit but ppl didn't and it was better back then imo, and my idea was that if davidm knew what gameplay style ppl liked the most he could get his coders to make it so that the game was most effectively played with the more fun gameplay style

ok i just finished reading the posts....and guys i don't know if it is different in euro but in NA is dying saying "oooo it is great don't change it at all" is just stupid, ppl don't like to play db becuase the most effective way to play is not also the most fun way to play and that is what needs fixing

then people find ways to defend this funny way to attack etc and there is nothing left
there is not much you can do

At a bare minimum I'll be happy as long as boost goal is killed and everything else isn't fucked with TOO much. Pbox camping shoud go, if not just to make games more fun again.
My last word on the subject.

there is no pbox camping....just defend and the prob is gone...... x_X
we never had any trouble with that

I still love most of the games I played last year, because I try not to play games that suck. That way when I go back to play them later, they're still fun because they never sucked in the first place.

davidm the problem is that with these "funny" ways to attack is that they are one more effective than the "normal" way to attack and two in defending agianst them you often have to play an unfun style,
say a team wanted to based their gameplay on passing and moving into space with a 2 D 2 O formation, they would get killed by the team boosting 3 O and 3 D pretty much no matter how good they were at the way that they play the game becuase one is inherently more effective than the other. which is why teams pbox camp and other such less fun way to play. it kills the variety of play and make the game very repetitive.
and if you can't figure out how to guild gameplay in the direction that you want it maybe you should think about just playing games and not making them (not an attack just what i feel to be a true statement)

btw davidm pbox camping=defenders staying in the pbox the whole time on defense... not an attacker cherry picking.... if you already knew that then your statement didn't make any sense
