ITS A CREATIVITY TEST IT DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE
I refute that! What's creative about writing nonsense? Is it more creative to say that they're round because it was 25degC when they were designed and the guy liked the shape of the degree symbol, or to say that it's so that they can be moved around easily by rolling?

Deep underneath the Earth live giant worm-like creatures with a complex and volatile iron-based biochemistry. These spend their long lives eating the soil until finally they emerge into the open air. When this happens the volatile iron-based molecules of which they are mainly composed reacts instantly with the oxygen in the air. This causes them to flatten and contract from tail to head and then turn to solid metal.

They are obviously round because someone in the factory lost their ruler and could only find a compass :D
