carburettors are kind of gates ... the carburettor fills up with petrol (through one hole), then the petrol explodes and pushes the piston down, freeing other holes to allow the gas through into the engine (and simultaneously blocking the first hole), then the piston goes back up again, blocking the other holes and freeing the first one.

I'm a :noob: at mechanics :lol:

Works for me - the technical term is ports which is another name for door -ish.
