so basically if you are in division 2 and you win the semi-final of the playoffs then you'll promote to division 1 right?

Each season the winner and runner up of division two go into division one, and the two bottom teams in div 1 go down into div 2.
/me goes to make a shit drawn version

Yup, then the final to determine who wins the division

I like the idea but imo you should make it two matches vs each team on different days because if you get the chance for "revenge" when you lost your first match due to a bad day
No idea if you can understand what i want to say but i don't know how to say it more clearly

That would be the ideal case, but the problem with that is it stretches the seasons out too long (unless you're prepared to play 2 mathes per week or similar... which might work with 6 teams butI still don't want too lengthy seasons). Even with the current number of teams in the DBL leagues, it's still taking sooo long for the season to end, and teams are still dropping out.
An idea for you all to poo-poo...

Split the euro teams into 8 random groups, with this season's top 8 teams being a seed in each group.
This will result in groups containing 3 or 4 teams, you play each other twice.
Ideally this should mean that the league phase finishes after 8 weeks!
3 points for win, 1 for draw, 0 for loss. If teams are equal, compare wins/losses/draws between teams tied on points, then use overall goal difference. Failing that, see which team has spammed the board less :p
Winner of each group goes into the knockout phase, randomly drawn for each round, to play a single (maybe extended) match. A round of this phase is played each week, so it takes 3 weeks to get the winner of the season. Could perhaps do home and away game, aggregate score decides qualifier, but you would need both matches to be played in one week to stop this phase dragging on too long.
In the following season, the 8 quarter-finalists are put in their own group. The 8 teams that finished second in their league are randomly placed in a group. The teams that finished third in a league are then randomly drawn. Any remaining teams are then randomly thrown into groups. That would give a fair spread of skills, but perhaps you would prefer completely random group allocation and end up with 'groups of death'
There you go, brainstorm idea finished, now feel free to shoot the idea to flames

I can't believe you guys want to make somewhat of a playoffs. I have told bazzi it would be a very nice addition but it needs the right format. Ideally, it would be fun, however after a few times around the block, it will seem like another cup.
Instead of destroying the soccer format, we can have number of games dependent on the number of teams, multiplied by 1.5!
Hence:
You have 10 teams in division A. Each team will play 14-15 games. You will play a random team selected in your schedule twice, and others you will only play once. This cuts down the rematches.
I will submit a proper proposal to bazzi if you guys tell me, what you want, how you want it go be. Just ideas, and I can pass it to bazzi to get it approved.

hmmm.... but then the luck of the draw can be a factor...
e.g. The team that gets to play AOV twice are at a disadvantage.

I definately think there should be playoffs.

The UT CTF league I was in had 6 teams per division, and several divisions. All teams only played each other once per league season, the top team in each division got promoted, the bottom team relegated to the division below. We could do that or we could hold it as more of a cup-like afair. No offense to DavidM but I just don't think DB works if you try to make it like the euro soccer league stuff...
Perhaps if we had two divisions, then had groups of six teams, and the top two in each group went into playoffs to play for the division. Each season the winner and runner up of division two go into division one, and the two bottom teams in div 1 go down into div 2. This provides 1) the excitement of a one-off playoff system, and shorter seasons means less teams drop out (hopefully).
In short: two divisions of 12 teams. Each division is divided into two "groups" of teams of 6 per group. The top two in each group go into a playoff format to determine who wins the division. The two top teams from div 2 go into div one next season (random groups drawn again), and the bottom two teams from div 1 groups go into div 2. If that made any sense to anyone please give comments (It makes sens in my head... maybe I'll draw a diagram tomorrow to illustrate it).
No doubt davidm will refer to this system as silly, but i think it'd make DB more interesting

(oh... and each team should only play each other team once, in a CB style system. Two 20-minute maps, score is added together... or you could count each game seperately for the purposes of league points, which would also make things more interesting). Right, rant over

personally, nothing new will sort it imo.
ppl just dont have enuff time to play dbl games anyway anymore, no matter wat format gets played, ppl will still not b able to sort games out at regular slots and teams will die, due to players leaving the game.
look at the current league, the so called "top division" and we`re bout 6 or 7 games behind schedule because teams cant play often enough

i like what cata says about the 2 maps then both added, but i think you should have to pick 2 diffrent maps, but which team will get to decide ? also if its only 1 game who will be the home side and who will be the away side ? which server do you use ? who will get 1st choice on maps ? might give other maps a chance to be played. Good thinking Cata !:p

Maybe even doing a league .... and a cup ? like every team from 1 - 3 gets to play in it kinda like the FA cup each round is a knockout and there is a draw and everything for each round .. oh the excitement we could have, might spice things up a bit (hopefully).

That's ignoring the problem that the league is still boring/runs too long as it is

. Plus it'd be both home AND away, since one map would be played on one team's server and the other on the other's.

There is no way of making the league fun. Its the teams in it which make it fun
