I really don't know why I check the DB forums anymore... I havn't played in like 4 months.

Thats the problem, they're not "trying to hold it together", but there are many reasons for this, most of which im sure we'll never understand. The main one being though, that just as a lot of the community members did, the developers themselves lost interest in the mod.

I think the excitement was always there amongst the team when DB was a relatively new concept, when it was being created and perfected, to get it working better and better with each new version to eventually releasing an (almost) perfect product. After that, a lot of "ideas" (mostly silly and pointless) were floating around for new modes etc, leading eventually to people just giving up working on it.

That, and David got a job at a german software company.

Yeah but he was "only" the designer, the coders all lost interest way before david got his job.
