Sounds like a good idea tbh, but if it didnt work in official league. Maybe there could be one run along side, with this method, drafts sound like a great idea =) gives the game a more personal touch from the play pov.
I sorta like that Idea surge, i'm not officially in any clan for dball. and debated wanting to join a team, it'd be nice if you could register with a league as a 'free player' and be on the free list so its easy for teams to pick up players, and teams are reformed every season to spice things up.
I mean really, its not like any of us really get anything out of winning, why do clans insist on being so pissed off if they got a noob. I bet such a league might be fun. and make it less possible to have lop sided teams cuz every team might have a noob
goalies might pose a problem tho, the # of them and how would trading them around work.
oh ya.. forgot to mention that. For all the teams, 1/2 of all keepers will become team captains. From there, those keepers they must pick 1 other keeper for their frozen pick, and 2 other players (first dibs at their own clan). From those 3 frozen picks, a new captain can be appointed for further picking.
For example, lets say Larc is a captain. He then picks Insane as his first pick because its mandatory he picks another keeper with his first frozen pick. Unless the other keeper is frozen by his own clan (they always go first) you can take anyone. From there, the members of SoP are the only players Larc has first dibs at. If he only chooses to freeze Nordy and has 1 frozen left, he and any other teams that opt to leave one frozen spot open can take from the available free agents in a randomly drawn order before the real draft starts.
If a player is a freelance keeper (no clan) they get first dibs on freezing the free agents and are with the un-frozen keepers keepers. This also means, they over-ride the other clans the opt to leave 1 player un-frozen and automatically get their 2 frozen picks first. At the end of the pick all teams will have 7-8 players. 2 keepers, 2-3 defender/midfielders and 2-3 attackers. Untill the first round of matches are played (once against every team) player trades can be made but all clans must have a player quota of 7-8 minimum. Group and proxy trades can be made -BUT- teams can only trade a maximum of 3 players total from their team of 7-8. The 2 frozen players (non-keepers) are immune to trade. Only 1 keeper can be traded. There will be no baring on trades and no discrepencies. The captains choice is final. If you don't want to play because you get traded to a "lesser" team than we dont want you to play. The point of DB is to have fun playing, not to win all the time. This idea is to try and save the community, play the game, have some fun, meet new people, etc.
If a clan falls below 7 players, a "sub" clan is given to them determined by their current ranking. The team can only take subs from the team ranked directly above or below them and cannot be from the team they're facing. This means that last place is above 1st and vice versa.
Recruiting new players is allowed but team sizes can not excede 10 players. If you leave one team, you arnt allowed to join another unless the other team wants to trade for you with the team you left. If you pull this stunt twice, no dice, your gone.
Thats about all i can think of... oh.. if a team dies, the remaining players split up to different teams, OR players will be taken from other teams that are over the 7-8 barrier to revive the dead team.
I like the idea of a draft, but Surges idea seems co difficult, plus its not going to spread out the players enough. I say we make it easy. Figure out how many players sign up. Figure out how many teams that will make. Then get a goalie for each team and let them start picking.
blitz, noshows and assorted wankness would be a problem if we just went with the minimum necessary, maybe have something like 7 per team.
surge's 3 locked player idea isn't bad, i had thought about that. Except instead of the draft order going round robin, have worst team pick first, etc.
Fallen, a test tourney is a good idea but i think a big thing to look at is how well this works out over a few seasons.
kaot > yes, we need to get sponsars and prize money
people do your best to get contacts
surge > good ideas, just simplify the picking process. make it more like a pug match. Players would registar with a main position they would like to play, and then a 2nd choice. That means a player would be eligable to play in 2 different positions for a team, but they would only play for the position they were picked for
All captains would be keepers. The first round of picks would be all back up keepers. Then the picking rounds continue with people from Offence, then on to the Mids, and then finally Defence players.
weisso > yes, have this new NA league run on the off time from the DB league
/I'm going to post on TFO to some insiders in the gaming industry to see about prizes and sponsors. I will be linking this thread
and we need to get DevNull on board with this for sure
I like the idea of doing this separate from our regular teams and the DBL just to test it out and see how it works. In some type of tournament setting could be fun.
As for drafting i was thinking we could do it similar to a sports fantasy league. Basically it's up the captains to pick the positions they need when they want it. And i was thinking that the keepers don't necessarily need to be the capts. Lots of times some keepers arent aware of all the players and they might not be interested in leading the team anyway. So we can just leave it up to volunteers or we can nominate from the volunteers if we have too many. Also if the capts are all volunteers they will be more motivated to find time to do the draft and actually do a good job in picking their team. If it so happens that a team gets stuck without a keeper (which shouldnt happen if they are picking well) then possibly we can do trades and even have a waiver pool just like fantasy leagues. The waivers would be ppl who might want to play but didnt sign up in time and they would only replace ppl who drop out of the tournament. Because you shouldnt be able to drop anyone who is on a team if they want to be there. Trades might be too difficult though, we'd have to think about that.
Well we have a lot of ideas flying around, i hope something comes of it. I guess it will just depend on who wants to put in the work
given that there's a good chunk of nubs who pub but don't otherwise know where to find us, think maybe it'd be a good idea to pop into pubs every so often and spam a URL for the pug league thingy? Seeing as one of the goals here is to get more people involved and all, no point keeping it a secret.
