GreenBaize an ownage map? I don't think so. And instead of growing the number of official DB maps, when new maps are added, you just kick a few off (Ship and Sediment anyone?). I for one am itching to play a bigger variety of maps...

DavidM wrote: "to compile an "Ownage" type map pack for DB with only the best custom maps"

ehm, it would be empty to be honest, whenever I see an pwnage map it will be added to the next release....that happened 4-5 times until now.

let me draw your attention to smallcube. the map is bad. when I look past the lights my framerate drops from 40-15. This is not my problem it is bad mapping.

and cube is a boring map, all there is to look at is above the walls, if you actually concentrate on the game then you're looking at lowcube + ads.

legofan is good.

tribun - put the old one back in or leave tribun out completely. no-one wants another db-cube, with glass walls.

chill is good.

curve is good.

icedemon is a good map, but the severe gameplay change of an icy floor makes it impractical to choose in clan matches, and it will only ever be played when ppl are bored on pubs.

greenbaize, now there's an example of mapping excellence. It was played about 4 times on our server and never again. I wonder why? Could it be that it sucks shit deeply? It might be vaguely ok if the balls were removed, but i doubt it.

i think that is all. so why don't you take a good long look at the "release" maps before you say none of the custom maps are good enough for inclusion in an ownage map pack. I know for a fact that on our server, where there is no problem of ppl not having the custom maps (everyone has dl'ed the 30 or so custom maps) the custom maps are played much more than the release maps (although not for league matches).

lol... good maps are added to the release? YOu mean you actually consider Chill a --GOOD-- map? I never knew a map refered to on servers as "Goal hangers paradise" would be a good map!

The only "good" maps that are sent out with DB are November and... November.

Why?

Cube - If you have a P4 3.0 and a Radeon 9800 Pro is a sweet map. If you dont, put it on low and listen to the fake crowd. This map is crappy and has become worse and worse with every version. Cube is suppost to be SIMPLE. Its suppost to be a map the EVERYONE can play. Not to mention, the Blue walls are a HUGE handycap to the blue team if anyone on the red team has bright skins on. Also, the Blue ball trail is IMPOSSIBLE to see against the walls and its VERY hard to judge depth on the map due to the super-sized brick texture.

Smallcube - Same as cube but on low theres invisable fences around the top portion of the map. Nice one David, showing off your mapping skills ;)

Tribun - a good map that was screwed up. You may as well call it "DB-CubeWithCeilingAndAnnoyingIslands". This was a good map, now i leave servers when it comes up on the map rotation list.

Legofan - I actually dont mind this map that much but its too friggin yellow. Last time i checked the ball is yellow too. Its so easy to lose the ball on this map its not even funny. They could have been any color but yellow, blue, or red and it would have been super.

Ice Demon - Its too hard to see the stupid ball, mini-map and radar against the white floor. If this is a good map to play i'd hate to see a bad one... Sure it looks nice, but its playability is horrid. Not to menthion the ice fucks up targetted passing.

Curve - Another map screwed up by its new version. Just fix the blocking volumes and make the old map 90% of its original size and it would be a great map to play.

Greenbaize - Woo Hoo! another map i leave the server if it comes up. I dont play maps with more obstructions than people. kthx. Either the balls go, or the map should go. Also, its very easy to run into a pocket and get "instant-defense" on which is retarded.

db-mappack is the greatest idea ever, if there are any maps up to par, i dont keep such a keen eye on the custom maps around here

Well noticing that people are complaining about the new Tribun and Smallcube, what say I replace my two maps, DB-TheWarehouse][ and DB-Chamber, with my DB-Oldmaps compilation? It contains the two old versions of DB-Tribun and DB-Smallcube, updated to be playable with Deathball 1.7 and up. :)

Yes they should definitely be in.
However I believe warehouse is an excellent small map... not perfect in the eye-candy department, but the best gameplay of a small map i've played on.

My personal ownage list would be

oldtribun
oldsmallcube
warehouse
spaceballs][
downfall][ (controversial but its a great map if you play it seriously with 8-12 ppl)
clearnight i haven't played but it looks good enough

cowtemple i havent played or seen so dunno
same with dendrophile.

Well the reason I said "replace" my maps, is because I don't want the pack to be too big. I already was looking at a 30mb zip file.

EDIT: I have removed the song files for my maps. This has taken off a good 5mb off the pack size.

OK I have a pack here that is 32.2mb. This is all the maps in the pack:
DB-Chamber
DB-ClearNight
DB-CowTemple
DB-Dendrophile
DB-Gym
DB-Old-Smallcube
DB-Old-Tribun
DB-Optimized03
DB-Spaceballs][
DB-TheWarehouse][

Sounds good to me Armagon. Who here can influence the servers though? It's all fine having these maps, but if no-one can play them online then we haven't made any progress...

yeah true, which i think is why it needs to try and become an official map pack, hosted on DB.net and maybe be allowed to select these maps in the DBL too.. otherwise 2 or 3 servers will get them installed but every day players wont have them and hence leaving servers a little empty :(

if there is a mappack, and we get most server admins to put the maps on (and very importantly they need mapvote as well), then ppl will start to dl the mappack. It worked in oz.

Have u asked the mappers if you may use modified old maps in this custom mappack?

DB-Old-Smallcube and DB-Old-Tribun? I have already sent McLane an email, asking whether I am allowed to distribute
DB-Old-Tribun in the pack. As for DB-Old-Smallcube, that's really up to DavidM. He can either be nasty and not permit it, or he can be so good as to allow people to enjoy his old map again.

I have good news. McLane has permitted me to use DB-Old-Tribun in this pack. :D
Hi,
at first, i want to clarify that both version are done by me with
suggestions about gameplay from David.
If there are people who want to play the old Tribun, then I will give you the permission to include the
map in your 'ownage' pack :-)

Please mail me a list of changes you have done.
I think DB-SmallTribun would be a fitting name...

cheers

Daniel Pflugbeil
I have already sent my response email explaining the exact changes I have made. Also I have renamed the map to
DB-Smalltribun. I like it more than DB-Old-Tribun. Hurrah for McLane! :D
Now will DavidM be so generous as to allow the old smallcube to be put in.

Armagon, Blaaguuu is (or was) working on SpaceBalls]|[ last I talked to him, might wanna wait for that... All hes doing is filling the center gap and (i think) putting higher walls on the sides.
