Why do I always reach levels after all the clues have been removed?

My scientific calculator is stupid. It thinks -5^2 is -25, but if you put in -5x-5 it comes up with 25.

But it has a negative (-) button that's different from an operation, so surely it should be applied first?

(-5)^2 = 25
-(5^2) = -25

Yes, I know, but there is a button for negative as well as minus.

Well, I think it's silly anyway. It's my boyfriend's calculator. Mine doesn't do that. Anyway, I'm off to make a biriyani.

1) It depends on how these this are programmed whether they require parenthesis for operations like that.

2) What is a biriyani?
