the key to sweeping in my opinion is basicly :
1. Be ready for ur teammates to pass 2 u, so u can spread the play
2. OMG ur radar must be 98 % of the game
3. Just learn to stay out of their "boost-zone"
4. Try to boost ur opponent way up when u are behind him
this is the most important for me
and maybe
5. Make sure u will SWEEP the entire P box if they are attacking, this is important to prevent crossvolleys, use ur radar to watch the position of ur enemy and just hit
The whole 'staying goalside' of an opponent aspect of the article seriously limits your defensive ability.
'Fronting' an opponent if done appropriately, stops them from ever getting the ball.
They don't get the ball - they don't score.
Simple.
Always staying goalside of an opponent, just lets them get an easy catch. They are an easy outlet pass for opposition defenders / midfielder.
It will also invite the shot.... because they have the ball in scoring range - for either a direct shot, or a loop off the wall.
You'll have plenty of shots against you - some of which may go in.
If you front an opponent, then they are not open for an easy pass. Other opposition players will find it hard to pass it to them, since you will most likely be in a position to intercept.
If your 'team' puts pressure on opposition ballcarriers who have no-one to pass to, then they are forced to throw it away or get hit.
= turnover.
= more possession to your team
= more shots to your team
= more scores to your team
= win.
Defence can win games.
It is not just to stop opponents.
Only playing goalside defence invariably leads to p-box camping.
P-box camping is for losers. Both in the insult sense and the literal one.
Just a small point...theres no mention in the timing of tackles bit about when they are on the edge of the p-box waiting till they cross the line to make it an instant kill. (I know this is obvious to most...but this IS a n00bs guide)
And stu....staying goalside AND watching the game, you can easily intercept by jumping in...and it's not impossible to pass to some1 who is being "fronted", if ur timing is good...and if they do get the ball they are home free.
