General Question - SOUND REQUIRED?

Just a quick general question, does one need to use/listen to the sound in order to play this game?
I'm asking as I wish to listen to an audiobook as I play, but obviously NOT if I need to listen to the game audio in order to figure out how to move forward.
So, if playing with the audio off/not listening to sound will hamper my ability to move forward, Please let me know.
