also, ut2004 does have everything that db needs. apart from players.

Even if you only ported DB to UT3 for the new engine alone, I bet it would bring a lot of players back to the mod and also attract a new crowd.
People always want new, shiny stuff ... can't blame them.
No idea, how much effort this would take, but it might be worth it.
