I didn't deny you stated anything. I didn't deny I stated anything. Where's the contradiction? You're obviously misinterpreting the definition. I believe it's an honest mistake so we'll leave it at that.

i live with my brother. i work for his company often. i know a thing or 2.

I'm interested in what facts you think you've presented. You don't have to respond though. I won't take the lack of a reply to mean anything.

Edit: As an aside (don't take it seriously), your brother is a level designer? That qualifies him as a game designer? Since when? Have you not heard of American McGee? :p

I think the community's drastic decrease in numbers speaks for itself. I thought the whole purpose of this modification idea was to build a community of people that enjoy playing your game. Doing otherwise just doesn't make sense. It seems that with every update a couple of people leave (and when that couple of people represent 5% of your active community, that's a lot!). If you want the community to keep diminishing and end up developing for yourself and a handful of followers, knock yourself out. I just wish for once I saw the logic in anything you did or are doing.

People are scared of change, so they leave. Nothing new about that.

Which part of the community (such as it is) should be pandered to? Do you think we all want the same game?

Wow... I should profess to being emotional less often. Okay then... I am a humourless, emotionless robot.

True story.

If I start making a game for the community...to fit everones likings, so nobody ever quits, the game is gonne be shit....like the_one said.

I'll do the game that I like the most, then there will automatically be lots of other people liking it too.

People leaving has not much to do with the game itself.
Just CHANGE makes people come and go. Something is different = bad. Old story, I don't even want to talk about it anymore.

Generally I've had a lot of respect for you because you *did* ignore the whining masses, but here is where you need to have a little humility. Deathball is literally on its last legs right now in the NA scene, which is really the only community that was still chugging along nicely. We're mixing with the same 15-20 people (if even), and the amount that quit is higher than the amount currently playing. You can no longer throw in changes that you deem awesome when its killing your community. It's far too fragile for that. If its your intent to drive the knife home into the heart of DB, well....I guess as The_One said, it's your perogative.

I'm going to use maelstrom's example here. By your logic, if I love shit sandwiches and I'm a game developer, I'm going to make a shit sandwich game because I KNOW people will love it. Right?

Don't cross the line from ignoring whining to becoming stupidly hard-headed. You'll just eliminate the rest of your fanbase. In essence, you might want to start listening to that whining fanbase as of late because its the only community you really have left. Don't forget that good game developers not only have a strong vision and will for their game, but also an open mind to suggestions. Open mind doesn't mean reject things right out the moment you hear them, which is often what the community gets from you.

I guess you are confusing something. Deathball isn't small because of Deathball. It's because of UT2004. It doesn't matter how good it is, it won't get bigger there...and it's 4 years old and people sure get a bit bored of it.
Blame it on me ;)

Ps: I talked about the "open to suggestions" thing myself....so I dunno what your problem is.
