I'm not getting ready to listen to Tool's 10,000 days album.

I just bought it - along with RHCP's new Stadium Arcadium; I also placed an order for Tool's Ænima - and I'm now going to have my first listen o/

First listens are always magical

so: lights out, sennies on and go .o/

edit: ok I lied, I just spent a good 10 minutes "HOLY SHIT"-ing about the artwork .o/

Holy shit that's awesome! (once you get how the booklet works)

edit2: A good 70 minutes later, I'm very impressed

Tool is the ethereal equivalent of sitting on the tip of your chair;
Only you're in the dark and you're waiting to either fall back into that comfortable chair, or forward with your face flat on the floor.

(obviously hands tied on your back because recorded music isn't an interactive medium :p)

Not neccessarily so. After years of playing, my ears are screwed. But I truely, deeply love those moments $\o/$ Bashing my brains out with a violent guitar sound beats any drugs any day

Turning down your volume would have been a good idea.

Besides, music that needs quantity (sound volume) over quality is bad anyway ;p

Depends on the music, really. Django Reinhardt is best in the background, as is Mozart. But rock'n'roll to me is way more than notes. It's the sheer energy that threatens to finnish you off if you don't watch it. But on the other hand, musical taste and preferences are pointless to discuss. It's all what YOU get out of it.

Hell, I can have a very good time listening to punk (though it's 200% better live) because of the energy going on - especially when transferred into the crowd live.
..and we all know Punk isn't exactly known for it's musical complexity
