It's however, still the dog's cool (property) right?
Not 'the dogs cool'.
So if That was the subject and cool was its (<-- ) property, it would still be That's cool. But as a sidenote I'd like to say that using That for a person or anything else that can actually have property is a bit confusing even as an example, so please excuse me for that .
I never said 'it's' instead of its though o_O
Well, I probably have ;p but not in this thread..so ha!
...anyway.
As I said, the s in 'That's cool' is a shortened 'is' (of to be), so afaik it should be counted as a seperate word.
I might be wrong though, in which case I'd love to hear :O

You are wrong as because you've joined is to that it has become one word.
They're two words?
Don't two words?
Can't two words?
But the abbreviations are classed as one word, even though they stem from two words. My fav example is " 'tis " from it is. 'Tis still classed as one word though . Not sure if this helps or not ^^

How will it tell the difference between 's being used to state it's the property of the word before it, or 's being used instead of is (of 'to be', if you didn't know)?
Word might've been able to recognise that "it is" is the only real way you can say "it's". Meh.
Anyway, either I misunderstood, or... grammar police, arrest this man...
