Would it be possible to have text to speech commentary but not see it, just hear it?

a far more useful feature would be a db-specific irc bot. since utv is fubar with db, a irc live bot, with a running commentary would be v. useful for following games.

Not really a db request, more a polite prod for some willing volunteer :)

The_One: yup :)

plaer: Heh, i tried that before, but it kept getting flooded out. all those damned people passing to each other... also, i couldn't get access to any of the DB-specific actions (ie passes, saves, etc) without using a new gametype. It would be more useful if there were functions within DB to call mutator functions like OnSave, OnPass, etc.

Text to Speech sounds better... then a commentary add on for 300mb, although t-s will be a big file as well. Its quite pointless as well.... but nice idea.. in the future im sure, if Deathball goes solo !

Just what we need, John Madden's voice in DB saying the same stupid crap over and over again.

Tbh, this seems a bad idea.

First, it is something that needs lots of work. then, it will make DB's file grow way bigger, and to finish, it would be messy in 5vs5 VO SC :D

hmm, i like the sound of the commentary idea, and the audio won't be like as much as 100-200mb?

Most mods are like around that size tbh and if you can... make it so you can either turn off / on the commentary whenever the hell you want so it won't be as annoying.

Then again, it's not my choice.... but i would't mind whether there's commentary or not.

Either way DB is great. :)

Well the trick is to make it time driven rather than event driven... make about 400 1 second pieces of commentary (then again I can't fathom it being anywhere near 400 but just a high estimate)... how big could that possibly be? at MAXIMUM, PCM WAV quality is about 187KB per second... approximately 69MB, however I would do it at a lower bitrate probably around 44KHz, Mono, 16bit which is only 89KB/s which makes it about 38MB and that's a very high estimate. Again it would take a lot of work, and I'd probably rather release as an add-on to DB rather than with DB since I wouldn't trust anyone managing this project other than people who are very open-minded. And Foo it wouldn't be John Madden, besides he's color commentary anyway, play-by-play is Pat Summerall...

This is how play-by-play is meant to be done:

I'll just add it to Cata's project
Cata rules! =D
