Mapvote doesn't show DB maps

Post by Pilot_51 »

I did everything in the "DB 2.0 server issues" post so I could run DB normally as it was done in UT2003. Now my problem is with mapvote (the one built into UT2k4). I configured it so it shows all the maps that work with each gametype, but none of the DB maps show at all. I even moved the DB maps from the ..\Deathball\Maps\ directory to the ..\Maps\ directory and still no luck.
I'll continue digging through for a fix and post if I find one before someone else replies with one. Hopefully I'll learn the UT engine and start making my own mods and stuff so I won't have so many of these problems where I'm clueless.

I'm not a fan of the built-in mapvote, and not just because I'm on the UT2Vote beta team. It simply doesn't compare to all that UT2Vote offers. http://www.unrealza.co.za/proasm/ut2vote42.html

But to answer your Q, you need to manually edit the server's ini as below:

[xVoting.xVotingHandler]
VoteTimeLimit=70
ScoreBoardDelay=10
bAutoOpen=True
MidGameVotePercent=50
bScoreMode=False
bAccumulationMode=False
bEliminationMode=False
MinMapCount=2
MapVoteHistoryType=xVoting.MapVoteHistory_INI
RepeatLimit=9
DefaultGameConfig=0
bDefaultToCurrentGameType=False
bMapVote=False
bKickVote=False
bMatchSetup=False
KickPercent=51
bAnonymousKicking=True
MapListLoaderType=xVoting.DefaultMapListLoader
ServerNumber=0
CurrentGameConfig=6
GameConfig=(GameClass="XGame.xDeathMatch",Prefix="DM",Acronym="DM",GameName="DeathMatch",Mutators=,Options=)
GameConfig=(GameClass="XGame.xTeamGame",Prefix="DM",Acronym="TDM",GameName="Team DeathMatch",Mutators=,Options=)
GameConfig=(GameClass="XGame.xCTFGame",Prefix="CTF",Acronym="CTF",GameName="Capture the Flag",Mutators=,Options=)
GameConfig=(GameClass="XGame.xBombingRun",Prefix="BR",Acronym="BR",GameName="Bombing Run",Mutators=,Options=)
GameConfig=(GameClass="UT2k4Assault.ASGameInfo",Prefix="AS",Acronym="AS",GameName="Assault",Mutators=,Options=)
GameConfig=(GameClass="Onslaught.ONSOnslaughtGame",Prefix="ONS",Acronym="ONS",GameName="Onslaught",Mutators=,Options=)
GameConfig=(GameClass="deathball.DB_DeathBall",Prefix="DB",Acronym="DB",GameName="Deathball 2.0",Mutators="NONE",Options=)

[xVoting.DefaultMapListLoader]
bUseMapList=False
MapNamePrefixes=DM,DOM,CTF,BR,AS,ONS,DB

Then you should be able to see the maps.

Thanks, that fixed it! I just overlooked the very last part, forgot to add DB into the MapNamePrefixes.

The reason I don't want to go back to UT2Vote is cause in the UT2003 version it didn't support multiple prefixes. I was emailing someone (creator maybe) back and forth about it until he eventually stopped replying, he made it pretty clear that it couldn't happen but I was determined to find a way. If you can tell me it supports multiple prefixes in UT2004 unlike UT2003, which I wouldn't be surprised of since the built-in mapvote does, I'm sure to grab it ASAP cause I must agree it rocks.

BTW, is there a way to include all maps (or maps without prefixes) into the prefix list? It would really be helpful for some of those maps without a prefix that I want to use in DM, TDM, etc.

Anytime.

As for the alternate prefixes, I have never understood why people simply have to have the novelty of playing a gametype on a map which wasn't designed for that given gametype.. Especially when there's no shortage of good maps and mappers who work hard designing the flow and placement of everything in a map. From the mapper's point of view, I would be sad that quantity is more important than the quality..

However, enough people have made this request that the UT2Vote team has made some changes to incorporate this ability into the next version. Here's a little preview:

Code: Select all

[UT2Vote43B5.UT2VoteIniOnly]
OtherDMPrefix=CTF
OtherDMPrefix=DOM
OtherDMPrefix=ONS
OtherDMPrefix=etc... new line for each additional prefix
I'd expect you'll want to rejoin the fold soon.. ;)

Now while this really upps your mapcount, please consider that even with so many maps to choose from, your regulars are still being deprived. A good player/admin will sweep the net, scouting out the best maps for the gametypes that he loves and supports. And when they are added to the rotation, they shouldn't be watered down with all these non-native maps.

Don't mean to preach, just want to share my thoughts..

I'm assuming that next version of UT2Vote is 44 or something... I'll keep checking the site for it and download it once it's released, but until then I'll be sticking to the default mapvote so I don't need to go through the hassle of something I'm not quite ready to use.

I'm don't plan to be running a server 24/7, in fact some 95% of the time I'm the only one in my server, and I'm not actively searching for the best maps, so my list is fairly small and would likely stay that way. With those facts, it can come in handy to have all the maps at my fingertips and use the different maps for something entirely different, I still have yet to see how the different map types work with the other game types. I see what you're saying though, too many maps can become a hassle when each and every map is listed. I do plan to start a 24/7 game server sometime in the not-too-distant future and then I'll be running it like a true admin (and include some maps & mods I expect to be creating by then).

Trying to download UT2vote from http://www.unrealza.co.za/proasm/ut2vote42.html and I get a missing file error? Anyone have a link to it from another site?

Damn I remember how easy it was to run a DB server for 2003, don't know why people got to be complicating this stuff.

I wasn't awake at the hour you needed help, so I emailed you when I woke up.
If you need anything at all with UT2Vote, let me know. BTW, the 42 version isn't there cause the current release is 43. I am running the beta 44b6 presently. We'll likely release that one as the final if it checks out fully.
