I don't care whose problem it is! It's fucking the problem of the defenders and keepers. we can keep moaning about legitimate reasons and why they are not coming back but that wouldn't help shit! face it: in the last couple of versions defending has been made (dunno on purpose or not) alot LESS attractive. I'll stop now till I actually get some proper arguments (somewhere tonight)

OMG, I hear u say, wtf??? hear me out...
Basically, have it so u can set your volley radius to whatever (within defined parameters), but your volley speed gets adjusted also...
eg.
u play defense...so you want a large volley radius...but this means u get a really SLOW volley speed...
u play attack...so u have a choice...do u have a large volley radius, so u can hit more balls, but slowly, or do u have a small volley radius and extra volley speed?
So as the radius goes up, speed goes down...
any thoughts...?

The thing is, with a super disciplined midfield you can have a nice defensive unit. Sadly defending isn't high on many people's priorities. I agree with a lot of what you say RaGe but I know there have been some amendments to 2.0 and until I have played that properly I'll reserve judgement...
I've said for a while I'd like keeping to be tweaked (bigger catch radius, bigger volley radius, lower volley latency, any one of them really) but I've been told off for whinging! But again, let's see what 2.0 brings and then we'll see if things change for the better or not...
As for f1end's idea, sorry but I don't like it. What I've always liked about DB (with the exception of sprint) is that every player has the same ability - no-one is faster, stronger, harder to kill. I've always hated how in Deathmatch when you spawn you have a peashooter as a weapon and the first thing I do is search for a gun. It leaves you vunerable and at a disadvantage. You don't get this with DB. However, I'd be willing to give f1end's idea a go before completely dismissing it...

Using the log-in menu for 2k4, you could choose your position on the pitch quite easily - for example keeper and ball-spawn (when the game resets), because quite often you'd like the same person in each place. f1end: good idea, and original, but I think it would bring too much randomness into games, because you never know what other people have selected, and it would sort of ruin the ability for people to anticipate. As to the defense not being good enough - we played against 18+ the game after, and only scored 1 goal in the first 10 minutes. They scored 5 in the final ten, but it was still a satisfactory game - the reason the pX game was so high scoring was because it was on november - smaller penalty boxes. Perhaps the pboxes in the larger november should be expanded?
Also, I know this is being done already (kinda), but I'd like to see some more maps that are the same size of cube but different styles of stadium/location. I'm kinda bored of looking at cube all the time - perhaps it would encourage people to play a larger variety of maps

True. I like November, but the increased power up means you can pull off shots from way outside the pbox that are hard to save. Not sure if bigger pboxes are needed, it's just something to get use to, and that will come with practice... (would be nice if we ever played any other map than Cube

With regards to how to do penalties:
1 attacker vs 1 keeper
ball spawns in middle, near the attacker.
the attacker has 12-15 seconds to score (edit: needs to be a map setting i guess)... ie just enough time to get one shot in... if the keeper saves or vollies it out or the ball hits the back wall...end of penalty...keeper wins....
in regards to f1end and cata's ideas. Maybe they can be combined with the new models you are designing in the future.

attacker with high speed low radius...
mid with average both
defender with low speed high radius...
since they will have different models (i hope)... people will know who can do what...
