Bots suggestion

Post by shadowboss »

hi!

firstly, i'd like to say that this mod is really awesome, but we all know that. :)

please excuse my bad english...

i have some suggestions for bots.

i have to say that the bots play 'advanced' (or whatever the second option is) because i won't have a chance when i play on a more difficult mode (they simply play too perfect - they only shoot volleys and i succeed about one time out of 10 when trying a volley)

1. make them more offensive. if you stand still with the ball, you have a big chance that all of the bots will stand still, too. also, they won't really attack you if you are in your half and the bots are in the other half of the field.

2. bots should go for the free space, they should tend to stand free for a pass.

3. i play alone with some bots against bots. if i have the ball, most of the time the bots will stay in our own half and won't help me with the attack.

Yep. Bot support is still under heavy development. I'm so busy with other stuff that I don't have time to tweak and polish AI, so bots are currently pretty much half-complete. Please be patient, I'll try to have atleast proper skill levels, tactics and good passing before summer.

worst part about the bots is their boosting and them getting passes. i cannot pass them, they dance too much

another one: i played with 3 bots against 4 bots (4 on 4). a bot always stayed as a keeper. i had no chance to become keeper. i tried to push him away, but no chance....

the bots have to be more offensive. most of the time i'm alone in the enemies half.

Hmm..it's great some1 is finally able to start out with bots and actually enjoy them and not get scared away :)

Agreed, bots need some tweaking, atm they're best for just practicing shots against (altho the keeper is way to perfect and only fooled by some default h4x :))

As much as I love hearing some1 enjoying TV's bots to start with \o/ I do suggest you try some online games =\

Bots may be fun to get into the game to start with, but they don't yet represent the actual game imo :>

i tried some games online, but most people are not too friendly when playing with a noob (as i said i get volley shots done about 1 time out of 10)

bots don't moan around..... :)

Heh :) seeing as you're probably euro since you're online now, why don't you contact me on IRC or MSN or by PM and we can go find an empty pub to train you in :)

I'll be nice \o/ (pm me on irc.quakenet.org under the nick Messy, otherwise PM me on this forum if you know how)

Well, mostly, I think you should remake Training Court. I downloaded the UT2003 one, and play on that, but... it's just me. If I play with a bot I'm red no matter what and he's blue no matter what and red is goalie, and the blue guy doesn't shoot, he just goes to one spot and stands there. I change teams to be blue, then go in goal to block, he'll shoot then. I think you should make a training court where you can choose to have a bot be only goalie and shoot it out when he catches it, or only attack you for goalie practice. I still use that map as it is, just to practice volleying and stuff, but it'd be cooler to practice against a bot-goalie, as perfect as they are... (usually)

woot first post

Err..go to custom bots, put 1 bot on red, and go blue yourself (or just put blue as default team)

Blue is always attack, and red is always defense on trainingscourt, simply because there's only one goal and one penalty zone, and it's red's :) (it's actually just one red half off a regular cube..really)

And err..yeh nice first post :o
If only I could remember mine :D

You don't have to remember your first post, you can go to your member page (click your name wherever you can find it) and click search for all posts by this user, and look at the earliest :-D

You can't change default team... What I did do once though was put all DB files into UT2004 also, play UT, then do instant action with DB and turned blue as default team. That worked, but the bot was weird... when it got the ball by being uber, it would kinda hold onto it for a while, then pass it to me. It was kinda meh though... I can't do anything. If I hit it on the wall anywhere close to the penalty box, it somehow gets there. My only choice is to do a very small primary fire or bounce it down, then volley it in... or just kinda walk up, wait for him to move where I want him, then shoot. If only there were people who might want to train a noob... *cough*

You can turn "practise mode" on from game rules and practise in smallcube, for example. No need to use trainingcourt at all... And if the keeper is too difficult, just lower the bot skill level.

is there a way to get the bots away from the goal, so i can practise as a keeper? i haven't found a way to get the keeper bot away....

can you make the bots more aggressive? i mean, when i attack, i'm alone in the enemy's half, no bots leave the own half most of the time...

has anything about the bots changed from update 3 to beta 2.0 # 2? (quite confused about the numbering of the versions....)
