To put this into a bit more perspective - we're talking about 5 MByte worth of source code changes (and this doesn't even include new code) from UT2003 v2225 to the current UT2004 code tree... It's actually quite scary to see how much has changed. We are now at version 3053 which means we had over 800 internal builds since the last UT2003 patch thus far.
Anyone familiar with merging and backporting code will know the dependency game where one tiny feature you want to port will have a dependency on another which then will have a dependency on yet another feature and so on till you realize that to backport it you either had to rewrite it in the old codebase or literally backport everything.
AFAICT Unreal -> Unreal Tournament had fewer code changes than Unreal Tournament 2003 -> Unreal Tournament 2004.

Most servers will be updating anyway :s and I'll buy it (yes..I have no life, but I hardly play any other games so mehh..)
I just hope they're gonna fix the nasty error that causes 'our' bug (the bug) in db![]()
I've already had a good shot at fixing that

if epic really wanted to save money, they would have never announced they were planning to do it backwards compatible just to piss players off.....
its just not do-able....
after this, rebate for ut2k3 owners makes no more sense, but they didnt cancel it, at least yet....
read above statement from sum1 in Epic Games Inc. and understand the reasons........

Well yeah it's a bit retarded they first announce it'll be backwards compactible and then seem to have 'forgotten' they couldn't realize it anyway. I mean, they have a plan, right; what they want to make, how they do it and how long it would take (<- oh well that's just normal, not that any game developer seems to care about it but nvm). They are professionals, and maybe even if they weren't, they should be able to predict/plan if a game is backwards compactible or not, and imo they should never ever say it is in the first place, when it doesnt seem to be when the game's almost ready (?
).
I think I'm gonna buy (..) it anyway, well, maybe only if 2k3 owners get a nice (not like €10, a bit more would be nice..) discount.
